Frozen Tundra at Dyracuse Park By AirTimeRacing | Tue Apr 29, 2008 at 06:56:15 AM EST   If you have never ridden at Dyracuse Park, then you have never experienced what old school motocross is all about. At first glance the track looks fast and smooth. The soft sand when freshly groomed is a paved highway.

We did our track walk Saturday afternoon, looking for lines that may never show up because this is Dyracuse. In all of our motocross travels we have never ridden on a more brutal, demanding and unforgiving track! And we have been doing this gig for a long time.
The reason I say lines that may never show up is the fact that the sand is deep and soft and the lines change with every lap of every class racing there.
We have a slight advantage living only ten miles away from the track and spending a lot of time there as members of the Rapid Angels Motorcycle Club. But that was a few years ago and our racing schedule now doesn't allow us much time to practice there anymore.
Sunday morning...29*F at 6:00am I have one work for that business.......WHAT???????
You have got to be kidding me, right? It is almost May. We had temps in the lower 70's the weekend prior and now it was snowing! Yuck, no, double yuck!
My son Cody had me up at 4:00am because he wanted to ride. If you don't know Cody make it a point to get to know him! He is an increadible young man of 15 and has more energy than anyone I have ever met, EVER!!
He was going on about the different riders there and the track and blah, blah, blah. I finally had to remind him it was only 4:00am and I wanted to sleep in this morning.LOL
Practice at 7:00am. I was bundled up in all my winter garb, while Cody was sitting on the line with just his gear on, no sweatshirt, no longjohns, just his gear warming his bike up (at least something was getting warm). I asked him if he was cold and he just smiled and said no. It was a typical race day for him.
First moto for the 85cc 12-15 class. Board up, then sideways and gates down. Launch! Cody performed another one of his pattened holeshots. Full throttle and gone! He had company this time. A very good rider form Illinios showed up to play. We have raced him before and he is very talented on the hardpack tracks, but this was Cody's backyard, right?. Robby held on for a lap, even got around Cody once with a very good move in a corner. Cody didn't flinch and started to tighten the screws on him. He had Robby's head on a swivel and made a pass to reclaim the lead on lap two. Robby could not keep the pace as Cody pulled away for a victory in moto one.
Moto two saw the same results as Cody hit the first corner at least five bike lenghts in front of the pack. I don't know how he does it, but he  does. One of the dads of a rider asked me how many cc's our bike was that he could pull holeshots so much, so fast. I smiled and told him we don't cheat, never have never will! It was quite the compliment.
The track was brutally tough. Ruts, deep kickers in every corner and of course the sand.
Robby went down on lap two while running in third place. He put on an awesome comeback and managed to move into second place again. Cody had a huge lead and put it on cruise control so he wouldn't crash. He went on for another win for his first overall(ever at Dyracuse Park!
Oh yeah, did I tell you the temps were now at 50*?
It was an awesome day of racing.
